ABOUT Gujarati Methi Thepla RECIPE

Thepla is a traditional bread of Gujarat. It has whole wheat and is a healthy recipe. I Have used methi here, you could make plain thepla as well. It is ideal to take along while travelling, as it remains good for 10 days. You could serve it for breakfast, as snacks or for dinner

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup whole wheat flour
  2. 1/4 cup chopped and washed fenugreek leaves
  3. 1 tsp oil
  4. 1 tsp Salt
  5. 2 tsp turmeric powder
  6. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  7. Water to knead the dough

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients except water and mix it well.
  2. Add water to make soft dough and knead it properly.
  3. Cover and set aside for 10 mins.
  4. After 10 mins, knead it again to make smooth out and divide it into 12 equal smooth balls.
  5. Flatten them using your palms and start rolling thepla.
  6. Take one portion and roll it using rolling pin and rolling board, into 6-7 inch diameter circle.
  7. Heat the tawa on medium heat to swallow fry thepla.
  8. Place one thepla on tawa and cook one side until bubbles you see on upside.
  9. Flip it and apply 1/4 tsp oil on that side, again flip it and apply oil on other side and cook for a minute.
  10. Prepare others likewise.
  11. Serving -
  12. Here have served it with mango, green chilli pickle and curd for dinner.
  13. You could serve thepla for breakfast or snacks as well with a cup of masala tea.

Awesome! Recently I was in Mumbai and tried something called "Dhebla". Quite liked it. Are these prepared same way? I love Gujarati foods and always look for the varieties. :blush:
