Ingredients to make Mysore Rasam

  • 1 cup cooked toovar dal with turmeric
  • 1 ripe tomato cut into pieces
  • Small Lime sized tamarind,soaked in 1 glass hot water
  • salt
  • Seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • 1/2 tsp whole black pepper
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • 1/4 tsp of asfoetida
  • 1 tsp corainder powder
  • 1/4 tsp Sambar powder
  • curry leaves
  • coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp fresh coconut scrapings..optional

How to make Mysore Rasam

  1. Take a deep steel pot. Add tomatoes, tamarind water extract, sambar powder, salt,turmeric powder. Add cooked dal and adjust the water to get rasam consistency
  2. Switch on the stove
  3. For seasoning, take a small kadai,add ghee,add all the seasoning ingredient.add lastly the corainder powder,curry leaves and coriander and pour over the rasam
  4. Remove as soon as it froths. Do not boil
  5. Serve

My Tip:

Season with ghee only
