Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Seviyan 1 1/2 cups or fine whole wheat vermicelli, roasted and kept aside.
  2. Onion Chopped 1 medium sized
  3. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  4. Green chilli chopped 1/2 tsp
  5. Water 1 cup
  6. Salt as required
  7. oil 2 tbsp
  8. Peas (optional ) 1/2 cup
  9. Peanuts ( optional)


  1. First roast the vermicelli till browned or you can use ready roasted vermicelli.
  2. Heat oil in a pan.
  3. Add the mustard seeds and let them pop in the oil.
  4. Now add the green chilli, red chilli, peas , peanuts and saute .
  5. Add water , salt and let the mixture come to a boil.
  6. Lower the flame and add the roasted vermicelli.
  7. Stir and cook the vermicelli till they become soft and all the water is absorbed .
  8. Keep on stirring in between .
  9. When the vermicelli is cooked completely and all the water is absorbed , switch off the fire.
  10. Serve the hot vermicelli upma
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves and fried onion.
