Ingredients to make Tomato Kurma

  • tomato 4 big sized
  • onion 2
  • salt As needed
  • turmeric 1 teaspoon
  • To Grind masala 1
  • ginger 2 inch piece
  • garlic 5 cloves
  • fennel seeds 1 teaspoon
  • green chillies 7 to 8
  • coriander Leaves & 1 handful
  • mint leaves 1 handful
  • coriander Powder 1 teaspoon
  • To Grind masala 2
  • coconut 1/2 cup
  • cashew nuts 4 to 5
  • Fried Gram/ Pottu kadalai 2 teaspoon
  • To temper:
  • cinnamon 1 piece
  • cloves 2
  • Cardomom 2(optional)
  • Biriyani leaves 1(optional)
  • curry leaves Few
  • oil As needed

How to make Tomato Kurma

  1. Cut onions length wise and finely chop the tomatoes.
  2. Grind the masalas separately as given in the ingredient list
  3. Add oil in a heavy bottomed pan and let it heat. Then add the tempering items(given in the ingredient list under to temper), then add onions and curry leaves and saute well.
  4. Then add the ground masala (1)and saute well till raw smell goes.
  5. Add tomatoes and let it cook well.Add salt and 2 cups water and let it boil till tomatoes get mashed and everything combined well.
  6. Then add the ground coconut masala (2) and let it boil for 2 minutes.
  7. Now kurma is ready . Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with idly or chapathi or idiyappam/Rice sevai

My Tip:

You can add a teaspoon of kas kas along with coconut while grinding. you can avoid the cashews , but it gives rich taste to the kurma.
