Ingredients to make Surmai fish in spicy peanut gravy

  • Surmai fish 2 pieces
  • masala To be roasted and ground
  • Black pepper 1 teaspoon
  • coriander powder 1 tablespoon
  • fennel 1 teaspoon
  • Dried red chilly 4-5
  • peanut 1/4 cup
  • onion 1 small, paste
  • ginger paste 1/2 teaspoon
  • garlic paste 1/2 teaspoon
  • Desiccated coconut 2 tablespoon
  • curd 1 tablespoon
  • turmeric powder 1/4teaspoon
  • salt as per taste
  • mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  • curry leaves 5-6
  • mustard oil
  • coriander leaves for garnishing

How to make Surmai fish in spicy peanut gravy

  1. Dry roast the Masala and grind to a coarse powder.
  2. Apply turmeric and salt to the fish and keep aside for half an hour.
  3. Take mustard oil and lightly Fry the fish from both sides.
  4. To the same pan add little oil if required, then add mustard seeds.
  5. Add onion paste, curry leaves, saute for few minutes.
  6. Add ginger, garlic paste, saute for 2 minutes.
  7. Add the dry Masala mixture, turmeric powder mix well, saute for a minute.
  8. Add curd and cook till oil starts to separate.
  9. Add desiccated coconut and cook.
  10. Sprinkle water to prevent it from drying up.
  11. When the Masala has cooked well add little water and the fish.
  12. Add salt and cook the fish.
  13. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with steam rice

My Tip:

Potato or raw banana can be added in the gravy like I've used.
