Ingredients to make Upma

  • semolina / Suji - 1 Cup
  • onion - 1 Chopped
  • tomato - 1 Chopped
  • curry leaves - 8
  • Green chilies - 2
  • coriander leaves - 1/4 Cup
  • Green peas - 1/4 Cup
  • peanuts - 15
  • oil - 2 tsp
  • cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • salt to taste

How to make Upma

  1. Roast semolina in a hot pan for 3 minutes on low flame. Remove it in a plate and heat oil, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and when they stop to crackle add curry leaves.
  2. Now add onion when it becomes brown add green peas and peanuts. Cover with a lid and cook till they soften then add tomatoes.
  3. Cook for two minutes then add turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Mix well and add semolina.
  4. Add salt and one cup of water, mix well. When water gets absorbed, add one more cup of water and mix well. Cover the lid and cook for three minutes. Sprinkle coriander leaves, stir and cook for one more minutes.
  5. Turn off the stove, the upma is ready to serve. Spoon it in a palte and squeeze some fresh lemon juice over it before serving.

My Tip:

Roast semolina for better taste.
