ABOUT Masala jowar roti ! RECIPE

Jowar roti is an authentic, healthy yet delicious south Indian meal. Jowar is an healthy alternative to wheat and maida as it is loaded with calcium, protein and healthy fibres.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup : Jowar flour
  2. 1 : Medium onion chopped
  3. 1/2 cup : cucumber grated
  4. 1/2 cup : Carrot peeled and grated
  5. 1 tsp. : green chilli paste
  6. 1/4 cup : Coriander finely chopped
  7. 1 tbsp : Sesame seeds
  8. 1 tsp : Cumin seeds
  9. 1/4 tsp : Turmeric
  10. Salt, to taste
  11. Oil for pan frying


  1. In a bowl add chopped onion.chopped coriander, Grated cucumber, grated carrots, green chilli paste, cumin, sesame seeds,turmeric and salt. Mix well and set aside covered for 10 minutes.
  2. This step will let the veggies leave its juices and turns them soft so that the roti won't tear while patting/shaping.
  3. Add the jowar flour to the veggies and knead into a soft dough adding hot water as required.
  4. Keep it covered for 10 minutes.
  5. Grease a plastic sheet or butter paper with oil. Take a ball sized dough and pat into circle with your fingers.
  6. Meanwhile start heating a skillet on medium heat.
  7. Now invert the sheet on to the moderately hot tawa so that the roti sticks onto it and then slowly peel off the sheet.
  8. Drizzle a teaspoon of oil on its sides and center and fry until golden spots appear.
  9. Remove and serve hot with a pickle of choice and yogurt.
  10. Healthy yet delicious Masala jowar roti is ready to enjoy.
