Was inspired by recepie of @Tamil salvi. And tried a sweet version of it.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. For making sweet pearls.
  2. Rice flour 1/2 cup
  3. Jaggery 1/4 cup [grated]
  4. cardamom powder 1/4 tsp
  5. Coconut grated 1 cup
  6. Ground Almond powder 1 tsp
  7. 1 tsp ghee
  8. water
  9. salt [a pinch]
  10. For Savoury Pearls : Rice flour 1/2 cup
  11. A pinch of salt
  12. Cumin ground 1/4 tsp
  13. Oil 1 tsp
  14. water
  15. For seasoning of Savoury Pearls: Oil 1 tsp. Mustard seeds
  16. Asafoetida - a pinch
  17. Sesame seeds - 1/4 th tsp
  18. 1 green chilli
  19. Chilli powder - 1/4 th tsp
  20. Curry patta 10
  21. Coriander leaves to garnish.


  1. For sweet pearls boil 1 cup of water, add salt and ghee in rice flour and add boiling water continuously stirring with spatula not to form lumps.
  2. Grease your palm with oil and knead a soft dough. Make small pearl sized balls and steam for 10 to 15 minutes. Check with toothpick test. Now boil little water , add jaggery, ground Almond powder and cardamom powder . Stir to mix well and than add rice balls . Let it mix well for 5 to 7 minutes. Your Sweet Pearls Are Ready.
  3. For Savoury Pearls make pearl sized balls same way by adding oil in the flour. Steam them.
  4. After cooling a while heat oil in a pan. Add asafoetida, mustard seeds, curry patta, green chilli, chilli powder and sesame seeds. Add pearls and saute well for 5 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
