This scrumptious and katla kaliya is traditional fish recipe from bengalicuisine,where katla or ruhu fish cooked with cauliflower,potato and spices..

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Katla fish - 3 pieces
  2. Cauliflower - 1/2 cup , cut into florets
  3. Potato - 2 ,cut into halves
  4. Coconut paste - 2 tbsp
  5. Ginger Paste - 1 tsp
  6. Green chili - 1 or 2
  7. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  8. Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  9. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  10. chili powder - 1/2 tsp
  11. Garam masala - 1 /2 tsp
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Sugar - 1/3 tsp
  14. bay leaves - 1
  15. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  16. Cinnamon 1/2 inch stick
  17. Cloves- 2-3
  18. Green cardamom -2

Instructions

  1. Marinate fish with little salt and turmeric for few minutes
  2. Blunch cauliflower with little salt and turmeric for 3-4 minutes..then drain water..set aside.
  3. Heat a pan with with 2 tbsp mustard oil. Fry fish both sides till light brown..then remove from pan.
  4. In same pan add cumin seeds,bay leaves, cinnamon,Cloves and green cardamom.
  5. Once you get nice aroma,add potatoes .sprinkle some salt and turmeric. Fry it for 1-2 mins.
  6. Then add blunched cauliflower. Give a good stir..
  7. Then add coconut paste ,ginger paste ,Green chili ,salt to taste,sugar and all dry spices (except garam masala)....
  8. sprinkle some water and stir it for few minutes to mix well everything
  9. When oil leaves side of the pan ,add 1/2 cup water. Give a good mix..
  10. When gravy start to bubbling, turn down flame and simmer it for 5-6 minutes or till potatoes and cauliflower cooked well
  11. When cauliflower and potato get tender,add fried fish and garam masala...give a good stir to mix well.
  12. Cover pan for another 2-3 minutes..
  13. Check seasoning. Keep gravy as per your desire consistency....serve this rustic fish curry with steam rice
