Ingredients to make Rajma

  • 150g rajma or kidney beans
  • salt acc to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 3 medium sized tomatoes
  • ginger 1 inch piece
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dry coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 tablespoon ghee

How to make Rajma

  1. Soak the rajma in 1 cup of water for 8-9 hours(overnight).Wash and transfer to a pressure cooker with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 2 cups of water.Lower the flame after one whistle and cook for 10-12 minutes.Turn off the burner.After 10 minutes, open and check to see if rajma is soft or not, else give additional -3 whistles.
  2. To make the masala,grind onion,green chillies,garlic and ginger to make a fine paste.Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and onion paste into it.Fry till golden brown.
  3. Grind tomatoes and add to the same pan, stir.Add salt,turmeric powder,red chili powder and garam masala.
  4. Mix in boiled rajma with masala.Simmer rajma for 5-8 minutes and then garnish with some coriander leaves and serve.
