In tamilnadu, if somebody says Avarakkai next person will say kootu. Avarakkai kootu is the best side dish for rice. Avarakkai kootu is very famous it is being served in Marriages. I have prepared the same method using chow chow, snake gourd, ridge gourd, drum sticks, carrot, etc but it tastes best with broad beans. Cook time is 1/2 hr as i dont pressure cook dal. I could actually find some difference in taste when i pressure cook and boiling dal. It tastes better when i boil dal with water.
