ABOUT Maharastrian Pithala Bhakari / Bengalgram flour tempered dip RECIPE

Really quick, easy and savior dish which can be prepared with always handy in kitchen ingredients. It is authentically eaten popping hot with thin jowar bhakari/rotis.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Bengal gram flour 1/4 cup
  2. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
  4. Asafetida pinch
  5. Garlic cloves 1-2 crushed
  6. Turmeric powder little more than 1/4 tsp
  7. Curry leaves 8-10
  8. Onion 1 finely chopped
  9. Green chilli 1-2 finely chopped
  10. Coriander leaves 2 tbsp finely chopped
  11. Ghee 2 tbsp
  12. Water 2 cups
  13. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix besan with 1 cup water nicely, so that their should be no lumps.
  2. Heat Ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, hing and cumin seeds. Let them crackle.
  3. Add crushed garlic,curry leaves, turmeric powder and onions. Saute till translucent.
  4. Add half of chopped coriander and saute for half a minute.
  5. Add salt and remaining water. Let them boil.
  6. Pour in besan mix and keep stirring till the mixture thickens and turns little translucent.
  7. Switch off the flame and serve hot with roti or rice.
