This is traditional tamil nadu recipe which is not known to many. I bet you can relish every bite of upma. It is so tasty and very rich in protein. It is basically steamed lenthil which is roasted in oil with seasonings. I learnt this recipe from internet. This can be made healthy by adding vegetables.

Nice recipe
Take equal quantity (1/4 cup) of Tuvr dal, Channa dal, Moong dal and 1/2 cup Millets. In original recipe 1/4 cup Raw rice and 1/4 cup Idli rice are used. I have substituted rice with millets
Rinse and soak lentils and Millets overnight
Drain water and add them to blender. Add Turmeric powder, 2 TSP salt, hing and 5-6 red chillies. Grind to smooth paste
Grease the steamer plate with oil
Add lentil paste on greased plate
Steam cook for 15 -20 mins
Cool the lenthils cake
Crumble the cake
Heat oil. Add Mustard seeds
When Mustard seeds cracks, add chopped green chillies and curry leaves. You can also add grated carrot/ beetroot / any vegetables to make it more healthy.
Add crumbled lenthils
Gently roast them on low flame for 5 mins
Upma is ready to serve
