ABOUT Moong dal chilla RECIPE

A protein packed treat with split moong dal , these chillas are perfect to be served for breakfast to all .

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup split moong dal
  2. 1/4 cup water
  3. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  4. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  5. 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  6. pinch asafoetida
  7. salt,as per taste
  8. 1 small onion
  9. 2 tbsp fresh coriander
  10. oil, as required


  1. Soak the split moong dal and keep for 2-3 hours.
  2. After soaking, add dal and 1/4 cup water to a blender and blend to a smooth batter.
  3. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and cumin powder and mix well.
  4. Chop the onions and coriander into fine pieces and add to the dal batter.
  5. Keep the batter aside for 15-20 mins.
  6. Adjust the consistency of batter with more water, if required to make it free flowing consistency.
  7. Heat the tawa and spread a spoonful of batter in round shape on the tawa.
  8. Cook the chilla on both sides,add little oil if required.
  9. Cook the chilla till golden brown on both sides.
  10. Similarly,cook all the chillas .
  11. Serve hot with green chutney or tomato sauce.
