Masoor dal ki khichdi

Ingredients to make Masoor dal ki khichdi

  • masoor dal - 1/2 cup
  • rice - 3/4 th cup
  • bay leaf - 1
  • cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Dry red chilli/ green chillies (which ever is available) - 3
  • Grated ginger - 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder - 3/4 th tsp
  • salt
  • ghee/refined oil

How to make Masoor dal ki khichdi

  1. Heat the pressure cooker bottom, with required amount of oil/ghee. Mean while wash the Masoor dal and rice together and keep aside.
  2. Once the cooker bottom is heated, add the bay leaf, cumin seeds and chillies. As they start spluttering, add the the grated ginger and saute for few seconds. Then add the turmeric powder.
  3. Add the washed Masoor dal and rice, add salt and ample amount of water. Close the lid and pressure cook till everything is almost mashed.
  4. Check for salt and add extra helping of ghee on top. P.S : If the khichdi tends to get dry, add some more water and let the mix get bubbled up.
