Ingredients to make Daal chawal

  • Basmati rice,.... 1 cup
  • Sabut moong daal... 1 cup
  • Salt, green chillies chopped to taste
  • Masalas such as garam masala, coriander powder, jeera powder etc. As per taste
  • ghee... As desired (can be skipped totally)
  • ginger and garlic chopped 1 tea spoon each
  • tomato finely chopped... 1 big one

How to make Daal chawal

  1. Soak rice and moong daal for 20 min after washing these thoroughly
  2. In a cooker put drained daal with salt and all the masalas, ginger, garlic, green chillies and 5 times water.
  3. Cook to 4 or 5 whistles. Open and check the consistency. If need be cook further to 1 or 2 whistles.
  4. In a patila put adequate water, let it boil. Add drained rice and salt. Cook till done. Seive extra water from rice and keep covered for 10 minutes
  5. In a plate arrange rice in the middle and pour daal from sides
  6. Remove katori, after tapping froand enjoy daal... A totally comfort food
