Barracuda Fish Gravy with Tamarind Paste of Grandma Style

Ingredients to make Barracuda Fish Gravy with Tamarind Paste of Grandma Style

  • Barracuda Fish - 250 grams
  • onion - 1
  • tomato - 1
  • red chilli powder - 3 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • green chilly - 1
  • fenugreek - 1 teaspoon
  • mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • garlic - 6 pods
  • Thick coconut milk - 1/2 cup
  • coconut powder - 2 tablespoon
  • curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • tamarind - a lemon sized ball
  • Sesame oil - 2 tablespoon
  • salt - to taste

How to make Barracuda Fish Gravy with Tamarind Paste of Grandma Style

  1. Marinate the cleaned fish pieces with red chilly powder turmeric powder and some drops of oil for about half an hour.
  2. Soak the tamarind ball in half cup of water for 10 minutes and squeeze out the juice from it .
  3. Add tomato and green chilly to the tamarind juice and mash nicely with your hands
  4. Add some chopped garlic and fenugreek into it.
  5. Mix the coconut powder with coconut milk and pour this into the marinated fishes.
  6. In an earthen ware kadai pour out the marinated fish mixture with half a cup of water.
  7. Allow it to boil with a lid on it.
  8. Heat a spoon of oil. Add mustard seeds in a tadka pan and allow them to splutter.
  9. After that add curry leaves chopped onions fenugreek crushed garlic using mortar and pestle. Saute them for a minute.
  10. Pour this tempering mixture into the fish mixture and allow to boil for about a minute.

My Tip:

Tempering in sesame oil will give an awesome aroma for this kind of gravy.
