My grandma's style of authentic fish gravy which is noted for its awesome flavour using tamarind

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Barracuda Fish - 250 grams
  2. Onion - 1
  3. Tomato - 1
  4. Red Chilli powder - 3 teaspoon
  5. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  6. Green Chilly - 1
  7. Fenugreek - 1 teaspoon
  8. Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  9. Garlic - 6 pods
  10. Thick Coconut milk - 1/2 cup
  11. Coconut powder - 2 tablespoon
  12. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  13. Tamarind - a lemon sized ball
  14. Sesame oil - 2 tablespoon
  15. Salt - to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the cleaned fish pieces with red chilly powder turmeric powder and some drops of oil for about half an hour.
  2. Soak the tamarind ball in half cup of water for 10 minutes and squeeze out the juice from it .
  3. Add tomato and green chilly to the tamarind juice and mash nicely with your hands
  4. Add some chopped garlic and fenugreek into it.
  5. Mix the coconut powder with coconut milk and pour this into the marinated fishes.
  6. In an earthen ware kadai pour out the marinated fish mixture with half a cup of water.
  7. Allow it to boil with a lid on it.
  8. Heat a spoon of oil. Add mustard seeds in a tadka pan and allow them to splutter.
  9. After that add curry leaves chopped onions fenugreek crushed garlic using mortar and pestle. Saute them for a minute.
  10. Pour this tempering mixture into the fish mixture and allow to boil for about a minute.
