About Sorse Rui Recipe

Its a very traditional bengali recipe of Rohu fish. Here Rohu is cooked in mustard sauce in bengali style.

Sorse Rui

Ingredients to make Sorse Rui

  • Rohu fish- 2 large pieces (300 gram)
  • mustard oil- 4 tbsp + extra for garnish
  • mustard seeds paste- 3 tbsp
  • poppy seeds paste- 1 tbsp
  • turmeric Powder- 1/2 teaspoon
  • onion seeds- 1 pinch
  • salt to taste
  • Green chilli paste- 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilli(whole)- 2(slited)

How to make Sorse Rui

  1. Marinate the fish with salt and pinch of turmeric powder.
  2. Take oil in a pan and allow it to heat until smoke comes out.
  3. Then fry the fish lightly. But don't overfry, otherwise outer part of fish will get tough.
  4. Take out the fish.
  5. Add onion seeds in oil and let it crackle.
  6. Add mustard seeds and poppy seeds paste.
  7. Add turmeric powder and salt to taste.
  8. Add green chilli paste.
  9. Bring it to boil.
  10. Add fish and whole green chilli.
  11. Cover and cook for 5 minutes in medium heat.
  12. Finish with extra mustard oil about 1 tbsp.

My Tip:

When you paste the mustard seeds, add salt and green chilli. It will prevent to get it bitter.
