About Vada Pav Recipe

This is very popular roadside snack in bombay (mumbai),Maharastra. This reminds me a lot.

Vada Pav

Ingredients to make Vada Pav

  • Ingredients for Batata Vada | potato Vada
  • potatos / Aloo - 6
  • gram flour / Besan - 2 cups
  • Rice flour - 1 tbsp
  • baking soda - a pinch
  • red chilli powder - 2 - 3 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil for frying
  • green chillies - 2/3(finely chopped)
  • curry leaves - few leaves
  • urad dal - 1 tsp
  • mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • asafoetida / Hing - 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • lemon juice - 2 tsp
  • oil - 1 tsp
  • coriander leaves
  • Pav / Bread rolls ( available in the grocery store )
  • for Sprinkling
  • Green chilli chutney

How to make Vada Pav

  1. Boiled and peel potatos, mash it Take a small pan heat 1 tsp oil Add mustard seeds when they splutter
  2. Add urad dal, turmeric powder, asafoetida, curry leaves, green chillies fry for few minutes till done Mix these into the potatos and mix well Add salt, lemon juice and corinader leaves. Mix well jsut like dough
  3. Make small balls of mashed potato mixture Take a bowl add gram flour, rice flour, chilli powder, salt and water The batter should not be too watery or too thick
  4. Heat oil in a wok Now dip each ball in the batter, deep fry all the vadas until golden Remove on a paper towel and drain. Batata Vadas are ready
  5. Heat griddle / tawa grease the butter & shallow fry the pav on the both sides. Remove & keep aside. Apply green chutney place the vada and serve
