Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup chana dal
  2. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  3. 1/2 tsp salt
  4. For tempting, 2 tbsp desi ghee
  5. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  6. 8 to 10 garlic nicely chopped
  7. 1 inch ginger nicely chopped
  8. 1 onion chopped
  9. 4 green cardamom
  10. 4 cloves
  11. 1/4 tsp hing powder
  12. 4 green chilli cut in half
  13. 2 tomato chopped
  14. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  15. 1/2 tsp jeera powder
  16. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  17. 1 tsp lemon juice
  18. Adjust salt according to taste
  19. Fresh chopped corriender

Instructions

  1. TAKE 1 CUP WASHED CHANA DAL, ADD SUFFICIENT WATER, COVER & LEAVE TO SOAK FOR 2-3 HOURS
  2. ADD DRAINED DAL TO A PRESSURE COOKER, ADD WATER, 1/2 TSP EACH OF SALT & TURMERIC POWDER
  3. PRESSURE COOK UPTO 3-4 WHISTLES UNTIL SOFT
  4. HEAT 2 TBSP GHEE, ADD 1 TSP CUMIN SEEDS
  5. ADD 8-10 CHOPPED GARLIC CLOVES, 1 INCH PIECE OF CHOPPED GINGER
  6. ADD 1 CHOPPED ONION, 4 GREEN CARDAMOMS
  7. ADD 4 CLOVES, SAUTE
  8. ADD 1/4 TSP ASAFOETIDA POWDER
  9. ADD 4 SLIT GREEN CHILLIES, SAUTE
  10. ADD 2 CHOPPED TOMATOES, SAUTE UNTIL SOFT
  11. ADD 1 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER, 1/2 TSP CUMIN POWDER, SALT TO TASTE, COVER & COOK FOR 2-3 MINS
  12. ADD THE BOILED CHANA DAL INTO THE MASALA, SIMMER FOR 2-3 MINS
  13. ADD 1/2 TSP GARAM MASALA, 1 TSP LEMON JUICE, MIX & TAKE OFF HEAT
  14. GARNISH WITH 2 TBSP CHOPPED FRESH CORIANDER, SERVE HOT WITH RICE OR ROTIS
