ABOUT Methi Matar Malai RECIPE

Methi Matar Malai is a popular North Indian dish. As the name suggest it is a creamy gravy made with Methi ( Fenu greek) and Matar ( Green Peas ). The dish is fragrant and very delicious, as it uses the fresh ground spices.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1 cup Methi leaves ( Fenu greek leaves)
  2. 1/2 cup fresh green Peas
  3. 1/2 cup milk
  4. 1 small Onion roughly chopped
  5. 1 green chilies
  6. 1/2 inch Ginger
  7. 6 Almonds ( soaked overnight or blanched)
  8. 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  9. 5-6 black Pepper corn
  10. 3-4 Cloves
  11. small 2 piece of Cinnamon stick
  12. 2 tbsp Oil
  13. 1/2 cup cream

Instructions

  1. IN A MIXER JAR, ADD 1 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, 2 CINNAMON STICKS, 6-7 PEPPERCORNS, 3-4 CLOVES, GRIND
  2. ADD 6 ALMONDS, 1" PIECE GINGER TO THE SAME JAR
  3. ADD 1 ONION, 1 GREEN CHILLI, 2 TBSP WATER, GRIND TILL SMOOTH, KEEP ASIDE
  4. HEAT 1 TBSP OIL, ADD THE GROUND MASALA PASTE, SAUTE UNTIL IT LEAVES THE SIDES OF THE PAN
  5. ADD 1 TSP OF THE FRESHLY GROUND SPICE POWDER, 250 GMS CHOPPED FENUGREEK LEAVES
  6. STIR IN 1/2 CUP MILK, COVER & COOK FOR 3-4 MINS
  7. ADD SALT TO TASTE, 1/2 CUP BOILED PEAS
  8. ADD 1/2 CUP CHILLED FRESH CREAM, MIX WELL, SIMMER FOR 1 MINUTE & TAKE OFF HEAT
  9. SERVE HOT WITH ROTI, PARANTHA OR NAAN
