ABOUT Menthi dal ghee fry / pappu RECIPE

Lentils and spices roasted in spices cooked with juicy red tomatoes ,onions and garlic .tempered with desi ghee .

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. toor dal 1 cup
  2. one large onion
  3. 3 tomatoes
  4. one tablespoon cumin
  5. one tablespoon fenugreek seeds
  6. 2 tablespoons coriander seeds
  7. 8 Red Chillies dry Red Chillies
  8. one teaspoon tamarind paste pulp
  9. 6-7 garlic pods
  10. 2 tablespoons ghee
  11. half teaspoon turmeric
  12. and salt according to taste
  13. half teaspoon mustard
  14. A Pinch of asafoetida

Instructions

  1. Take a pan add half tablespoon of ghee and roast the toor dal until golden brown and set aside
  2. Add half tbsp of ghee and roasted the fenugreek, corriander,chillies and cumin seeds and set aside
  3. Add half tbsp ghee and roast chopped onions and garlic until slightly brown
  4. Grind the roasted fenugreek,cumin seedsand chillies Coarsely
  5. Add friend onion and garlic to the mixture and grind corsely
  6. In a pressure cooker add roasted dal the ground spice and onion mixture and add chopped tomatoes and turmeric and cook it upto 5 whistles
  7. Allow it to cool add salt and tamarind according to taste
  8. Mash the mixture finely
  9. In a pan add 1tbsp Of ghee and add mustard,cumin curry leaves and asafoetida and add it to the dal and serve it with dal or steamed rice
