  15. Tamarind - small lemon sized ball
  16. Salt to taste
  17. Ghee - 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Soak the millet and dal in water. The amount of millet , dal and vegetables used in this recipe required 5 cups of water. You can always adjust the consistency at the end. Add a little turmeric powder to the water.
  2. In a pan dry roast all the whole spices along with coconut, curry leaves and tamarind. You can dry roast all these either separately or together if you are short on time.
  3. Once the roasted spices cool down, grind them into a powder that is not too coarse.
  4. In a pressure cooker, add the millet, dal and water mixture, throw in all the veggies, add 3 tbsp of the ground spice powder, salt and close the lid.
  5. Let it cook for about 8-10 whistles.
  6. Once done, check for the consistency and adjust if you need. Add the ghee and mix well. You can also add jaggery at this point if you wish to.
  7. Turn off the heat and serve hot.
  8. Tastes absolutely lovely with just some papad and fresh raitha or you can just serve with some kaara boondi , Karnataka style!
