A very tasty and saucy type recipe that can be served with rice. Ladoo or bateka rasa is the very best combination.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 4 Potatoes, boiled and mashed
  2. 3 tablespoon oil
  3. 2 tablespoon ginger- garlic paste
  4. 1/2 tablespoon green chilli paste
  5. 1 cup boiled water of tamarind and gud/ jaggery
  6. 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  7. Salt to taste
  8. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  9. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  10. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  11. 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  12. 1 tsp cumin seed powder
  13. 1 tbsp fresh coriander leaves
  14. Water as required
  15. Few curry leaves
  16. 1 tsp garam masala powder
  17. 5 cloves
  18. 1 bay leaf
  19. 2 cinnamon sticks


  1. Mix the ginger, garlic and green chilli paste in a bowl with water.
  2. Heat a pan and add oil, then add the in the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them crackle.
  3. Next add in the asafoetida and turmeric powder. Then add the cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf, currry leaves and dry red chillies. Let them all crackle well.
  4. Next add the ginger-garlic chilli paste mixed with water. Boil it for 2 minutes.
  5. Now add in the mashed potatoes and mix it well.
  6. Next add in the taramind and boiled water. Let it boil for 1 minute and mix it well.
  7. Now pour in extra water as needed. (Based on if you want the rasa thick or thin)
  8. Add salt as per taste. Then add the red chilli powder.
  9. Next add the cumin seed powder and garam masala powder. Mix it well.
  10. Let this boil and cook for 5 minutes. Then turn off the stove.
  11. Add coriander leaves to garnish and the batata rasa is ready to be served.
