Dal Gosht/ Dalcha

Ingredients to make Dal Gosht/ Dalcha

  • 1 cup of toor dal (split yellow lentil )
  • 1/2 cup of masoor dal (red split lentil )
  • 1/2 kg of mutton
  • 3 tbsp of ginger garlic paste
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp of coriander powder
  • 3 medium chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 3 sliced onions
  • 3-4 slit green chillies
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp of oil
  • 1 cup of diced lauki (bottle gourd)
  • 2 tsp of lemon juice or tamarind pulp
  • Whole garam masala for tempering (bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon stick, star anise, black pepper)
  • Finely chopped coriander and mint leaves for garnishing

How to make Dal Gosht/ Dalcha

  1. Boil dal together with salt and turmeric pwd in a pressure cooker. In another pressure cooker heat oil and add sliced onions to it, fry till it is golden, then add ginger garlic paste, tomatoes and saute.
  2. Add mutton pieces to it and fry. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder to it and fry for sometime till the oil separates. Add salt to taste, lauki and pressure cook it till the meat is soft.
  3. Once the meat is done mix it with whisked dal and cook well together.
  4. Add garam masala powder and lime juice to it.
  5. In a small pan, heat oil and add whole masala for tempering. Add this to the dal gosht mixture.
  6. Cook well. Garnish it with chopped coriander and mint leaves.

My Tip:

Serve hot with jeera rice.
