A dal recipe we eat with rice or naan. Made with goodness of dal and masalas. We muslim eat it on mostly fridays. Our traditional dish.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Mutton 1 kg
  2. Chopped bottle gourd 1/2 kg
  3. 1 1/2 cup tur dal
  4. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  5. 2 onions, sliced
  6. 4 tomatoes, chopped
  7. 2 tez patta
  8. Whole garam masala as per choice
  9. Cumin whole 1 tsp
  10. 1 tbsp garlic crushed
  11. Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  12. 2 tsp red chilli powder
  13. 1 tsp cumin powder
  14. Coriander powder 1 tsp
  15. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  16. Few coriander leaves for garnishing
  17. Curry leaves a few
  18. Oil as required
  19. Salt to taste


  1. Cook dal with turmeric in pressure cooker keep aside.
  2. Heat oil, add tez patta, ginger garlic paste, whole garam masala and saute well.
  3. Add in onions and saute till golden brown. Add in tomatoes and saute for some time.
  4. Add in mutton and mix till the oil separates. Add in all the powder masalas. Saute for some time then add the cooked dal in it. Add salt as per taste.
  5. Simmer till the mutton is 3/4 cooked, add in bottle gourd pieces and let it cook for few minutes.
  6. Take oil for bagaar, add in whole jeera, crushed garlic, whole green chillies and curry leaves. Add it to the dal gosht. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  7. Serve with rice or naan.
