Ingredients to make Matar paneer

  • matar 1 kg
  • jeera 1 tsp
  • paneer 500 gms
  • onion 2
  • Green chilli 8-10
  • ginger paste 1/2 tsp
  • garlic paste 1 tsp
  • tomatoes 3 finely chopped
  • Soaked cashews 12
  • poppy seeds 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp
  • Fresh cream 2 tsp
  • water as required
  • salt as per taste
  • coriander leaves a handful

How to make Matar paneer

  1. Saute the matar in very little oil for 4-5 minutes. Cut the paneer into cubes and fry them (Optional but recommended)
  2. Grind the onion ,ginger garlic paste and green chillies together. Also grind the soaked cashews and poppy seeds in a little bit of milk.
  3. Heat oil, add jeera and the onion paste. Cook till the raw smell goes off then add the chopped tomatoes and all the dry spices. Cook till the tomatoes are tender and the spices start leaving the sides of the pan.
  4. At this stage add the cashew paste and cook on medium till it becomes a bit creamy in texture.
  5. Add the green peas, cook covered till the peas become soft.
  6. Add fried paneer and the desired amount of water.
  7. Adjust the seasoning and cook till you get the desired consistency of gravy.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and fresh cream.
