A simple yet delicious dip for almost all Indian snacks.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 200 gms tamarind, seeded
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. 1 cup boiling water
  4. 1 tablespoons roasted ground cumin seeds
  5. 1 teaspoon black salt
  6. 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  7. 1 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  8. 1/2 teaspoon Ginger powder
  9. 5 Dates, seedless
  10. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Break the tamarind into small pieces and soak in boiling water for one hour.Soak dates in a separate bowl.
  2. Mash Tamarind into a pulp and strain, pressing the tamarind into the strainer to remove all the pulp.
  3. Chop dates.
  4. In a heavy bottom pan combine the tamarind pulp, sugar, dates, cumin. Black salt, red chilli powder, ginger powder and dates and cook over low flame for 20-30 minutes till thick.
  5. Taste and adjust salt. Pour into clean jars when cool.
  6. Chutney can be refrigerated for two to three months.
