ABOUT Mixed Millet Upma - No Onion No Garlic RECIPE

It is easy and healthy Upma which is very lite and easy to prepare. I dont prefer rice for lunch as it is very heavy. Boiling Millets is not as tasty as rice. So if i make it as upma, it is tasty and goes well with rasam, sambar and fries.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Mixed Whole Millet 2 cups
  2. For seasoning: Oil 1 tbsp
  3. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  4. Jeera 1/2 tsp
  5. Chana dal 1 tsp
  6. Green chilies 2 finely chopped
  7. curry leaves 7-8
  8. Hing - 1 pinch
  9. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Dry Roast Millet for 3 mins.
  2. Rinse them 4 times to remove the impurities
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Splutter Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds. Add Chana dal , green chilies, curry leaves and Hing. Saute for 1 minute
  4. Add 8 cups Water and Salt. Mix well and bring to boil
  5. Add millets and mix well
  6. Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes stirring occasionally to prevent upma from sticking to bottom
  7. Rest the upma for 10 minutes. Upma will thicken on cooling
  8. Serve hot with chutney
