ABOUT One pot Lentil Soup RECIPE

The One Pot Lentil Soup is my go to food, my comfort food, a food that helps me sail through the times when I am required to watch my weight or comes to my rescue when I’m in for a hurried meal….If you choose, you may also call it a Daal Shorba. The absolute ease and simplicity of preparing this dish and the gamut of nourishing properties it posseses is what appeals me the most of this soup

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1/4 cup yellow moong dal ( de-husked)
  2. 1/4 cup green moong dal (with skin)
  3. 1 small onion, roughly chopped
  4. 1 small tomato, roughly chopped
  5. 1 green chilli, broken in two
  6. 1/2 inch ginger, roughly chopped
  7. 2 large cloves garlic, roughly chopped
  8. 1/2 teaspoon haldi powder/ turmeric powder
  9. 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  10. salt to taste
  11. coriander with stalks or any micro greens to garnish, finely chopped
  12. some lemon juice to squeeze with serving


  1. Wash and soak the dal for 10 minutes.
  2. In a pressure cooker bring all the ingredients, except coriander and lemon together.
  3. Add 2 cups of water.
  4. Cook on medium flame for 4-5 whistles or until the dals are well cooked.
  5. Once the pressure subsides, open the lid, using an immersion blender grind the soup to a homogenous mixture.
  6. Add water if required to bring it to a thick soup like consistency. After adding water cook for couple of minutes to bring it to a gentle simmer.
  7. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  8. Serve piping hot garnished with some chopped coriander or micro greens and squeeze of lemon juice.
