About Aloo Bhe(kamal kakri/lotus stem) ki subzi Recipe

Bhe, kamal kakri or lotous stem is quiet popular in some of the indian cuisines including Punjabi food. The best part about bhe is that it is a powerhouse of nutrients. When combined with potato in thw onion tomato baswd gravy infused with kasuri methi, those who don't like it will also love to have it.

Aloo Bhe(kamal kakri/lotus stem) ki subzi

Ingredients to make Aloo Bhe(kamal kakri/lotus stem) ki subzi

  • Bhe/ lotus root sliced 1 cup
  • potato cut in cubes 1 cup
  • onion finely chopped 2 1/2 cups
  • tomato chopped 1 cup
  • garlic 4-5 flakes sliced
  • Kasoori methi 3 tsp
  • GREEN chilli 1 CHOPPED
  • Garam masala 1 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric as per taste
  • salt as per taste
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • dhania powder 2 tsp
  • oil 2 tbsp

How to make Aloo Bhe(kamal kakri/lotus stem) ki subzi

  1. Take a pressure cooker. Add the oil in it.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic in it and fry until onion turns light brown
  3. Now add chopped tomato and green chili in it. Keep stirring until tomatoes mix nicely with onion and turns into paste
  4. Roast methi on tava and crush it to powder and put in the cooker.
  5. Add garam Masala, turmeric, red chilli powder, dhania powder, salt and stir nicely
  6. Now add the bhe potato in it and stir nicely for about 2 minutes.
  7. Add about 1/4 cup of water or (little less) in it and close the cooker.
  8. Water should be enough that the subzi doesn't get burned.
  9. Cook it on medium flame until 2 whistle of cooker and then reduce it to low flame , and cook for 5 more minutes. And then switch off the gas. open when cool.
  10. Serve it with garma garam roti or paratha.

My Tip:

This subzi semi gravy type, need not add more water in it. Masalas can be adjusted according to one's preference.
