Losing weight is very difficult in today’s busy life as people don’t have the time to keep themselves fit. A little bit of negligence in eating and you are rewarded with a few extra kilos. Sometimes, even after exercising daily and starving yourself, you are unable to lose weight. However, overeating is not the only reason for weight gain; various other factors such as genetics, metabolism, hormonal imbalances, oily foods, body type, and lifestyle can also lead to weight gain.

You often have many questions regarding various weight-loss tips suggested by stars and fitness experts. So, today we are going to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about weight loss.

1) Why isn’t daily exercising causing weight-loss?

The myth about daily exercise is that it’s meant to cause weight loss, and people get easily frustrated when their New Year resolution of joining the gym and losing weight doesn’t work even after months of training.

Science has proven that exercise is great for your health, but exercise alone cannot make you lose weight. Let us explain this with an example:

If you run at 8 km/hr for an hour you will burn 450 – 500 calories while just one slice of a pizza has 240 calories, which means that eating 2 slices of pizza will easily balance out the calories you lost  during that one hour of running!

2) What is the importance of a low-calorie diet?

Following a healthy diet is the most important factor for weight-loss. We need to eat food to meet and fulfil our daily energy requirements. If we consume a high-calorie diet, we will inevitably gain weight. Our body requires only 1800 calories a day, and consuming anything above that gets stored in our body in the form of fat. If you take a low-calorie diet of about 1500 calories, you can lose weight because the extra energy will then be taken from the fat that is already stored in our body. A low-calorie diet combined with light exercise is believed to be the best method for losing weight.

3) How can water help in losing weight?

Experts suggest drinking at least 3 litres of water to maintain a healthy body. Some studies suggest that drinking 750ml of water can increase your basal metabolic rate by 25-30%, which is the amount of energy consumed by the body when it is at rest. Drinking water will provide you with the required energy for working out as water increases the oxygen content in your blood, which effectively provides more energy during the workout.

4) Why does weight-loss require more effort than gaining weight?

For weight-loss, you need to follow a strict diet along with daily exercises.  This might be difficult for you especially if you have a very busy schedule. On the other hand, eating junk foods and leading a sedentary lifestyle can lead to weight gain. You can eat some fried snacks or drink a few glasses of a coke in just the blink of an eye. But, it requires a lot of effort to burn those calories.

5) How to manage weight after weight-loss?

According to fitness experts, the most important aspect of weight management is eating breakfast.  Eating a healthy breakfast prevents you from overeating the entire day. Exercising daily or running every day can help to burn any extra calories that were consumed during the previous day. Be internally motivated to maintain your waistline and your weight. You can also weigh yourself every week and keep a record of your weight. This will help you keep your body weight in check.
