Headaches are a common ailment that most people have to deal with on a daily basis, but the problem is worse for women who have to deal with the household work as well. Headaches can be triggered by fatigue, eye strain, alcohol or drugs, low blood sugar, hormonal imbalance or nutritional deficiencies. Your body may be telling you that something needs to change, so begin to notice these signs.

B-complex vitamin consists of a group of eight water-soluble vitamins namely thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin B12, biotin and pantothenic acid. Studies show that vitamin B2 may reduce the frequency and duration of headaches, while vitamin B3 helps to calm vascular headaches by opening up the blood vessels to increase blood flow. Take one B-complex vitamin a day, as the benefits go beyond providing relief from headaches.

About 3,500 years ago, acupuncture originated in China and since then the procedure has been used in traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture can treat a wide variety of ailments, including headaches by reducing the frequency and severity of tension headaches. Acupuncture attempts to balance your body’s energy (Qi) by stimulating specific nerve points on your body. Acupuncture has also been proven to provide relief from chronic pain.
Apple cider vinegar has a long history of being a natural cure for various ailments. If you start getting throbbing headaches, have some Apple cider vinegar. Consumption of the vinegar also helps in restoring the acid-alkaline balance of the body.
Just pour half cup of apple cider vinegar and half cup of boiling water in a large bowl and cover it. Place a towel over your head, hold your face over the bowl and inhale the steam. Do this for 5-10 minutes, it will provide you instant relief from headaches.
Note – Mix 2 tablespoons of ACV in a glass of water with honey and drink 2 to 3 times a day for a permanent effect.
When troubled by a headache, people wonder whether to use a hot or a cold compress. Either of the compresses could work for a headache. Apply cold compresses at the forehead or the part where you are feeling pain. Ice has a numbing effect, which suppresses the sensation of pain. While fending off a tension headache, either of the compresses can offer relief from the pain.
Peppermint oil has a soothing and stultifying effect which makes it a perfect remedy for headaches by generating a long-lasting cooling effect. With its refreshing fragrance, peppermint helps open up clogged blood vessels which cause headaches. It contains menthol which helps improve blood flow in the body. Studies show that peppermint oil spurs a significant increase in blood flow at the forehead skin, and it also soothes muscle contractions. When peppermint oil is used in combination with ethanol, it reduces headaches.
Avoid headache-causing substances like MSG (monosodium glutamate), excessive caffeine, and alcohol. If you start getting a headache, stay clear of all electronic devices. And always, we mean always keep yourself hydrated to prevent the occurrence of a headache due to dehydration.
