Domestic Violence…even in Bollywood!

A survey has shown that 27% women in India have experienced domestic violence. Though this social evil is more prevalent in rural areas, 23% women in urban areas have also been subjected to domestic violence.

This 23% also includes some Bollywood actresses. Today, we bring to you 7 actresses who were assaulted by their partners. However, rather than suffering in silence, these strong women took a stand against this and their partners.

 

1) Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s affair is one of the most controversial affairs of Bollywood. After her breakup, the actress openly spoke about how Salman abused her when they were together. The actress said that she had to endure Salman’s alcoholism, his infidelity and his abuses. So extreme was this situation that in 2000, the actress’ parents actually filed a police complaint against Salman for threatening and stalking their daughter.

 

2) Kangana Ranaut and Aditya Pancholi

In her early days in Bollywood, Kangana dated Aditya Pancholi. Kangana confessed that Aditya used to regularly abuse her during their time together. Aditya placed the actress under house arrest and physically abused and exploited her. Speaking about this, Kangana even said that she was “trapped” in this abusive relationship.

 

3) Zeenat Aman and Sanjay Khan

Yesteryear actress Zeenat Aman suffered a lot in her personal life. The actress was in a relationship with a married man-Sanjay Khan. Sanjay used to abuse the actress a lot. The actress actually suffered an eye injury due to Sanjay’s violent behaviour! This incident made the actress go into a state of shock, wherein she had to be injected with antidepressants thrice a day.  

After ending this relationship, Zeenat went on to marry Mazhar Khan. However, even her husband physically abused her. Before Zeenat could formally divorce him, Mazhar died of renal failure.

 

4) Karishma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapur

After calling off her engagement with actor Abhishek Bachchan, Karishma Kapoor married businessman Sanjay Kapur in 2003. After being married to Sanjay for 13 years, the actress filed for divorce. She cited physical abuse and debauchery as the main reason for the divorce.

 

5) Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna

Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna were one of the most loved couples of Bollywood. However, this ‘perfect relationship’ was not at all perfect in real life. Rajesh had a bad temper and was an alcoholic. When the actor got drunk, he would physically abuse his actress-wife. Without formally divorcing each other, the couple decided to go their separate ways in 2011.  

 

6) Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor

Rishi Kapoor is well-known for his temper. The actor loves alcohol and drinks on a regular basis. It is alleged that once, in 1997, the actor got drunk and took it out on his wife Neetu Kapoor. The actor became violent that night, as a result of which Neetu called the police and filed a complaint against her husband.

Rishi and Neetu used to quarrel a lot. It is even said that their son, actor Ranbir Kapoor, couldn’t stand the fights between his parents when he was a kid. Whenever he heard his parents fighting, Ranbir would come out of his room and wait on the staircase in the middle of the night until his parents stopped fighting.

 

7) Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia

Preity Zinta has dated businessman Ness Wadia. In fact, the actress is also the co-owner of an IPL team with Ness. In 2014, Preity filed a complaint against Ness Wadia wherein she accused him of threatening and molesting her. It is also alleged that Ness slapped Preity at a party in 2009.
