Food Remedies to Avoid Heatstroke

Summers in tropical countries like India can be very severe with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius for days on end with no respite from the heat. Many people try and stay indoors but people have to go about their daily lives out in the sun even in such severe heat conditions. During this time of the year, heatstroke is a major concern for people who go out in the sun and are susceptible to such heat-related health problems. The following are some of the food remedies to help avoid heatstroke which can be a serious health issue:

Food Remedies for Avoiding Heatstroke

  • Onion is a great remedy for heatstroke. Applying onion paste externally on the head behind the ears or placing feet on the plate with onion paste is a good solution for heatstroke. Onion juice can be taken internally as well and drinking onion juice is a home remedy to avoid heatstroke.

  • There are many types of drinks that cool down people in extremely hot climates and help them avoid heatstrokes. Tamarind drink, aam panna or raw mango drink, buttermilk, coconut water, and other types of fruit juices are all types of drinks that help avoid heatstrokes.

  • Staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water is essential for avoiding heat strokes. Other drinks that help stay cool include juice of coriander and mint leaves, apple cider vinegar, aloe vera juice, and lemonades are all drinks that work well in such climates against heat strokes.
  •  Eating raw mangoes, plums, and different types of fruits that are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C should be eaten regularly in the summer to avoid the chance of getting heatstroke.


There are many food remedies that can naturally help people avoid heat strokes. Heat is a major factor in the summer months in countries like India where there is a sustained onslaught of extreme heat in most major towns and cities in the country and using food to fight heatstrokes is a good idea.
