Dandruff has become a very common problem nowadays. It is mainly classified into two types – the first is caused due to the dryness of the scalp, while the second is caused due to excessive oil production on the scalp. There are several reasons for this skin condition and some of these include:

  1. Brushing hair incorrectly and irregularly.
  2. Using shampoo very rarely.
  3. Inappropriate diet.
  4. Stress and certain diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, eczema, and Seborrheic dermatitis

However, there are many home remedies that can be used to treat dandruff-

1) Aspirin

Aspirin contains an active ingredient called salicylic acid that has various medicinal properties. One of these properties helps to remove dandruff. 2) Baking Soda

Some kitchen ingredients can also be used as anti-dandruff treatments such as baking soda. Apply some water on your scalp and rub a small amount of baking soda on it. After some time, wash your hair with any shampoo.

3) Mouthwash

Mouthwash contains alcohol which has anti-dandruff properties and works like a conditioner. Mouthwash also has anti-fungal properties which prohibit the growth of yeast.

4) Coconut Oil

Approximately one hour before bathing, massage your scalp with 3-5 teaspoons coconut oil and then wash the oil with any shampoo. You can also use any coconut oil based shampoo.

5) Lemon

If you have lemon in your refrigerator, then your work is almost done. Take 2 spoons lemon juice and massage it onto your scalp. After a few minutes wash it off with water. Mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice in 1 cup of water and wash your hair with it. Repeat the procedure until your dandruff disappears.

6) Aloe Vera

The cooling effect of Aloe Vera calms down the itching and helps in getting rid of dandruff. Massage the Aloe Vera gel onto your scalp before shampooing your hair.

9) Castor Oil

Castor oil contains Ricinoleic acid which has antimicrobial properties that can treat Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis. Before using castor oil, slightly heat the oil and massage your scalp with it until your scalp completely absorbs it. Leave overnight and then clean it with a mild shampoo in the morning.
