You might be surprised to know that unhealthy eating habits that we practice in our daily life unknowingly can cause cancer. 16% of people die of cancer every year.
Here are some habits that you should avoid and some that we should inculcate, in order to prevent cancer-
1. Eating Acidic Fruits on an EMPTY Stomach
If you eat citrus fruits on an empty stomach, the gastric acid in the stomach increases and leads to calculosis, which can lead to cancer of the stomach.
2. Sipping EXTRA Hot Teas & Foods
Are you in the habit of eating food that is piping hot and sipping steaming hot tea? Well, then you’ll have to change your habit as exposing the stomach to high temperatures is also known to cause cancer.
3. Relying on DIET Foods
Trying to lose weight and relying on “Diet Foods” with labels saying ‘low fat’ or ‘fat-free’; beware, these items most likely contain certain chemicals that are carcinogenic and can cause cancer.
4. Washing fruits and veggies in PLAIN water
Plain water isn’t good enough to wash fruits and vegetables that are available in the market as they have lots of pesticides on them, which when consumed over a prolonged period of time, can lead to cancer. Instead, wash all your fruits with veggies in a vinegar solution and then consume them or, go for organic fruits and veggies.
5. Cooking with NON-STICK cookware
Non-stick cookware has a teflon coating, which starts coming off in some time and gets added to your food, through which it enters our body and affects our health adversely. You can use aluminum or iron utensils instead.
6. Eating CANNED foods
Canned foods contain a compound called BPA – bisphenol as cans are lined with this compound and it gets added to the food. Research has shown that it alters your brain cells so it’s better to eat fresh.
Overeating can not just cause obesity, but also lead to cancers of the colon, gallbladder, esophagus, breast, kidney, pancreas and ovaries. Eat to live, don’t live to eat!
8. Consuming FROZEN foods and GMOs
Frozen foods contain nitrates and genetically modified foods contain certain ingredients that can cause cancer. Eat fresh and avoid GMOs such as soy, mushroom, and tofu.
9. Eating GRILLED Meats
This might be the tastiest of meats but it is the least healthy as it contains a carcinogen – heterocyclic aromatic amine, which can cause cancer. Use other methods of cooking your meat such as slow-cooking, boiling, or baking.
