Depression causes feelings of sadness and may also cause a loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyed. In our country, people try to hide this as they consider that the society won’t accept them. But there are many celebrities who have openly accepted this and shared their stories regarding their bad phase and how they recovered from this so-called weakness.

Deepika suffered from depression due to mental and physical stress. She decided to reach out to a psychiatrist. She thought that she would never be able to get out of this phase. But when she visited her parents in Mumbai, she came to know that one of her acquaintances committed suicide due to depression. This was the time when she decided that she needs to come out of this phase. She said to her mother “If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be here”. She thanked her mother, her sister, her father and her friends for supporting her immensely. Today, she is a passionate and dedicated supporter of mental health issues and is doing her bit to help reduce the stigma related to mental illness. She runs a foundation ‘The Live, Love, Laugh Foundation’ which aims at creating awareness about mental health issues in India.

3) Shahrukh Khan
King Khan suffered from depression after his shoulder surgery in 2010. When he overcame this bad in his life phase, he said: “Due to the shoulder injury and the suffering I had got into a depression mode but now I am out of it. I feel happy and boosted with energy”.
4) Anushka Sharma
Anushka in an interview opened up about her anxiety issues. The actress said, “I have anxiety. And I’m treating my anxiety. I’m on medication for my anxiety. Why am I saying this? Because it’s a completely normal thing. It’s a biological problem. In my family, there have been cases of depression. More and more people should talk openly about it. There is nothing shameful about it or something to hide. If you had a constant stomach pain, wouldn’t you go to the doctor? It’s that simple. I want to make this my mission, to take any shame out of this, to educate people about this.”
5) Randeep Hooda
Intense method actor, Randeep Hooda revealed in a recent interview that he is not able to easily get out of the roles that he portrays on-screen. He revealed that he was not able to easily step out of character after “Sarbjit” as his preparation for the role required great physical and mental involvement. He also revealed that he was depressed for a long time after “Highway”. He added that, sometimes we all might run into such phases and that these phases are a part of life.
