Every Indian woman knows what an ‘ubtan’ is! The ancient Indian tradition of applying ubtans on new born kids and brides-to-be, helps them get clear and glowing skin. Indian weddings have a haldi ceremony wherein you apply a haldi ubtan on the bride and groom’s face and body.
An ubtan is a great way to take care of your skin, as ubtans help to remove tan and dead skin, thereby lending a lovely glow to your face and body. There are innumerable ways in which you can make an ubtan at home. An ubtan is usually made using natural ingredients that are easily available in your kitchen itself! Apply ubtans once a week to naturally exfoliate your skin.
Here is a list of some easy homemade ubtans that can be made in no time:
Take one cup besan/chickpea flour, add two teaspoon haldi/turmeric powder and add one teaspoon mustard oil/milk and rose water. Make this into a paste. Rub this paste onto your body and let it dry and dust off itself. Once it starts to come off, wipe yourself with lukewarm water. This removes tanning and dead cells, thereby making your skin soft. You can apply it on your face and your entire body. You can use this ubtan twice a week.
Take one big tablespoon of chickpea flour, one teaspoon milk or milk powder and one teaspoon sandalwood powder. Add half a teaspoon haldi, 2 teaspoon honey, and one teaspoon lemon juice. Mix it all together and make sure that the honey gets mixed well, without spoiling the milk. If the paste is too thick, add rose water to it. Apply a thick layer of this on your face and body and start scrubbing it as it dries. This ubtan helps to remove tanning and gradually lightens dark spots.
Take one cup of coarsely ground oatmeal, 2 teaspoon besan and 2 teaspoon sandalwood powder. Add two teaspoon haldi powder and mix it all with cucumber juice. Make this into a paste. Massage this onto your body in circular motions to remove all the dirt. Rub it for 10 mins and then wash with water and pat it dry with a towel. This ubtan removes dust and makes your skin smoother.
This very simple ubtan is very effective. Take 2 big spoons of wheat bran, 2 big spoons of curd and add a pinch of haldi. Make a paste out of them and let the mixture sit aside for a while. Meanwhile, massage your body with Til (sesame seed) Oil and then apply this paste onto your body. Let dry for 15-20 mins and then wash it off with lukewarm water.
