There is a popular saying: “where there’s a will there’s a way” and the home baker Anna Elizabeth George proved this with her exceptional baking skills. Anna is based out of Kollam and is a 24-year-old student who is pursuing her PhD and is extremely passionate about baking too.
Anna involves herself in baking cakes and this time she made an edible saree. Edible saree, yeah, you have heard us right! Speaking about this innovative idea of baking an edible saree, Anna revealed that every year on Onam she tries to make something different. And this year she chose to make an edible saree. Anna reveals that her inspiration for making this edible saree came from her mother’s saree drying technique. She also credits her maternal grandfather for her baking skills.
Furthermore, talking about this edible saree, Anna said: “I have used starch-based wafer paper for the saree base. And the wafer paper is made of potato and rice starch… I used gold dust luster to get the golden zari border look and I made patterns similar to cake decorations… I had created a platform to make 5.5 mts saree and for that I joined two dining tables at home using 3 plywood sheets and after a lot of permutation and combination this saree was finally created.” Anna revealed that this edible saree is a result of her 1.5 weeks of hard work and dedication. She revealed that for the customers the price of this dessert will range from 10,000 INR onwards. Anna further revealed that she might even make an edible dupatta in the future.
