Home Remedies to get Rid of Bloating

There are times when you might feel so heavy after a meal, that  your belly feels like a balloon. This ‘heavy feeling’ is commonly know as  bloating.  Bloating might occur due to various reasons such as constipation, improper diet, carbonated drinks, stress, fast eating or overeating. However, you needn’t worry about this. Just  follow the home remedies given below to instantly release your irritating bowel syndrome and get rid of bloating.

1) Add Peppermint

The menthol oil present in peppermint helps to relax the digestive tract and is one of the best home remedies for bloating because of its antispasmodic properties. Peppermint releases muscle cramps and spasms. It helps to get rid of bloating by taking control of the gastrointestinal tract and gallbladder. Add fresh peppermint leaves to a bowl of boiling water, let steep for 5-10 minutes and then drink the water after straining the leaves. Have this before and after a meal.


2) Oranges

Eat a lot of oranges whenever you feel that heaviness in your stomach. Oranges are rich in fiber and help to prevent water retention in your body. Eat one or two oranges or drink a glass of orange juice everyday,  as doing so will help in reducing the pH levels in your body and boost the digestive process in your body. 


3) Ginger

Ginger is rich in carminatives, a component that releases gas and cures the digestive tract. Ginger helps to relax muscles and spasms and helps to ease digestive issues such as gas and bloating. Just add a piece of ginger to a cup of boiling water and allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Drink this before and after your meal to get rid of bloating. Additionally, you can also add ginger to your food.


4) Add Probiotics to your Diet

Probiotics are rich in good bacteria which help in soothing the digestive tract and provide instant relief from irritating bowels, bloating issues, diarrhoea, and constipation. When you feel like your tummy is bloated, just have a cup of fresh yogurt. The enzymes in yogurt help in digestion and reduce bloating.


5) Add Coconut Oil

Due to its excellent moisturizing capability, coconut oil can be consumed when one is suffering from bloating.  The consumption of this oil helps to ease the intestines.  The anti-inflammatory properties of coconut oil also help to improve digestion and reduce bloating. 


6) Drink Plenty of Water

You need to drink water in order to keep your body hydrated and to get rid of bloating. Drinking water also helps to clean the digestive tract and ensures that food moves easily through the intestine while eating.  So sipping water  and having a lot of fluids everyday is mandatory.


7) Go for a Walk

When you feel the uneasiness in your stomach due to gas or bloating, avoid sitting in one place. Simply move around to help ease the muscles in your stomach. Walk, run or  jog after your meal for 10-15 minutes.  This is one of the easiest and most effective way to relax the contracted tissues in the digestive tract.


8) Massage your Belly

Massaging is another quick remedy that can provide relief from bloating.  Massage the part of the tummy above the navel with the tips of your fingers in a clockwise and an anti-clockwise direction for  5 – 10 minutes. This will prevent water retention in the bowel and help reduce bloating.
