Roshni: The Woman who Survived Cancer…

Roshni was lying on her bed and her mind was working faster than the fan on the ceiling. She was wondering how this had happened to her. She looked healthy and took proper care of her diet, so how could this happen to her?

Roshni had a joint family. Since childhood, she had seen her aunts, uncles, and cousins and she loved to stay in a joint family! So, even after marriage, she loved being a part of a joint family. Her mother-in-law had died long back but her father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and their kids lived together with Roshni, her husband and her children. Everything was going fine until one day Roshni had an acute pain in her breast. She felt a lump in her right breast. She ignored it for 3-4 days but when the pain became intolerable, she told her husband Ravinder and went to see a doctor.

Never in her dreams had she thought that this would happen.

She had breast cancer. Right from the moment, she got to know about this, her entire life came crumbling down. Chemotherapy sessions started soon after. Roshni started keeping unwell and she felt very weak. She was unable to do household chores and take care of her children’s education.

For a few months, her sister-in-law took care of everything but soon she felt too overburdened. She would shun away Roshni’s children and ask them to take their father’s help with their homework. She would drive them away from her room every now and then. Roshni would silently and helplessly see all this,  but she could not do anything about it.

After a few days, when she had to visit the hospital more regularly, she realized that there were many such other cancer patients, whose condition was deteriorating very fast.

35 year-old Mrs. Rawat had only a few more days to live but she was an inspiration to everyone around her. She only had a few days but according to her, she had all the time for her family. She valued every moment she was getting to spend with her son Ayan. She said, “As long as I’m alive, I’m going to enjoy each moment with my family.”

Mrs. Rawat’s inspiring words worked like magic for Roshni and she saw a new ray of hope. The doctor had been stressing about the importance of positive thinking and strong willpower to beat cancer. After seeing a live example, Roshni was determined to fight this battle so that she could take care of her kids and enjoy every moment with them.

The cancer was spreading to other parts of Roshni’s body so the doctor suggested a surgery, which was successful. After this, there was no looking back for Roshni. She understood a very important lesson. Time and the teachers always teach you. A teacher teaches you and then takes a test, whereas time tests you first and then the learning takes place.

Roshni always tells everyone that they must listen to their body and its needs so that their kids have their parents with them at all times. Never ignore any symptoms of an infection and get an overall health check-up every year. All women should self-examine their breasts and if they find any lump, they should consult a doctor as soon as possible. You have only one life, so live it with happiness!
