Rujuta Diwekar’s Tips to Protect yourself from Dengue

Due to the onset of rains, the risk of various diseases and viral infections increases. Dengue  is the most dangerous disease that occurs due to mosquito bites. The dengue mosquito breeds in clean water. In the rainy season, when the water gets accumulated in pitchers, etc., the Aedes mosquito breeds in it, and its bite causes dengue. The rapid viral infection of dengue causes problems in the normal blood clotting system of the body. As the number of platelets in the blood is already low, dengue causes bleeding which can be life-threatening. The best treatment for this disease is to prevent it. India’s famous dietitian Rujuta Diwekar, has given some great suggestions to prevent dengue.

Rujuta says that there are some things that are tasty and they also have amazing medicinal properties, and if they are consumed regularly, the risk of any infections can be avoided and even if you have contracted dengue, your health can still be improved with these items:

1) Gulkand

The first thing in this list is Gulkand. You can either eat it in the morning, on an empty stomach or eat it with a meal. It is a sure-shot way of escaping acidity, nausea and weakness.

2) Saffron and Turmeric Milk

Add a glass of water to a glass of milk and boil it with a pinch of turmeric and two to three strands of saffron. Add a a little bit of nutmeg and cook it until it reduces to half. Add some jaggery and allow it to cool or drink it hot if you like. Turmeric milk increases immunity and reduces protein deficiency and inflammation.

3) Rice Kanji

You can also call it soup made from rice. Add black or rock salt, asafetida and ghee to rice kanji. Rujuta says that one should using good and pure asafetida,  just like the one that is available in Kerala. Regular use of this concoction increases appetite, relieves dehydration, and helps to treat an imbalance of electrolytes.

4) Plenty of Water

Drink plenty of water every day in small sips, so that you pass lot of urine and the toxins get eliminated from the body. When urine color becomes clean or colorless, it is a sign of improvement in health.

5) Yoga

Rujuta says that along with a healthy diet, a simple yoga asana, supta baddha konasana can also give you amazing benefits.

For this posture to be practiced in accordance with the Ayyangar system, two things are needed. A cushion or bolster, which allows the back to be rested comfortably and a blanket that can be kept under the neck to give it rest. To relax the entire body and provide relief from back pain, keep the upper part of the body in a comfortable position.

Health is the most important thing for all of us and all other things come after it. To avoid deadly infections like dengue, follow these measures regularly and make your immunity so strong that no disease is able to break your natural protective armor.
