Did you know Jalebi is also called ‘Funnel Cake’ in English and is the national sweet of India. And do you also know that despite being such a popular snack in India, its origin can be traced back to West Asia? A version of Jalebi known as “Zalabiya” was a festive treat in Iran and served during the iftar gatherings of Ramadan.
However, this delicious crunchy treat coated in saffron and dipped in sugar syrup is taking the internet by storm after a video gained popularity, with over 213K views and 15K likes. A Vietnamese food blogger who goes by the name Soy posted on her Instagram page @foodwithsoy a video of her eating Jalebi for the first time.

In this video, Soy’s Indian friend Pratik manages to bring over some Jalebi for which he was charged nothing, as a Bollywood hit melody plays in the background. He describes it as a roadside snack or a sweet dessert when asked if it can be paired with something else like tea. Explaining to her viewers the excitement she felt for eating this dessert for the first time as she has only seen it online. She seemed to have enjoyed it immensely and complemented its texture.
Her followers from around the world described their love and experience with this “Indian sweet” and how this video made their mouths water.
