Surrogacy is a method in which a woman agrees to carry the baby in her womb for another person or couple. After birth, the person or couple become the parents of that child. When a couple is not able to conceive naturally, then they take help of surrogacy in order to bring happiness in their life in the form of a newborn baby. Surrogacy is still not so common in our country, despite this, people have had kids via surrogacy.
Surrogacy is of two types, the first one is Genetic and the second one is Traditional surrogacy. Artificial insemination is used in traditional surrogacy. In this method, the child inherits the genetic qualities of its father. Genetic surrogacy also known as Host or Full surrogacy is the method in which eggs are fertilized by IVF technology. This can be done in many ways. The child may or may not inherit the characteristics of his/her parents, depending on the method of surrogacy.
Some Bollywood celebrities have also taken the help of surrogacy to have kids:
1) Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan
Known as the King Khan of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, and his wife Gauri Khan were already parents of two children, Aryan and Suhana. But they had a third child via IVF in 2013. Their son, Abram was born through this process.
2) Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao
Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan and his second wife Kiran Rao had many problems in conceiving a child. Kiran Rao had several miscarriages, which made this couple very sad. The couple became parents in 2011, when their son Azad Rao Khan was born via surrogacy.
3) Karan Johar
Karan Johar is one of the most sought-after directors in Bollywood. He is an actor cum director cum producer cum screenwriter. He started his film career with the movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, whose success earned him a Filmfare award for Best Director and Best Screenplay. In 2017, through surrogacy, Karan became the father of fraternal twins. He has named his children Roohi and Yash.
4) Tusshar Kapoor
Tusshar Kapoor, son of Bollywood legend “Jitendra”, is also the co-founder of the famous “Balaji Telefilms”. Tusshar Kapoor is the first single father of the Indian film industry. When he expressed his desire of adopting a child, film director Prakash Jha suggested him to go for surrogacy instead. In the year 2016, he became a father through surrogacy. His son’s name is Laksshya Kapoor
5) Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder
Besides being a famous choreographer,Farah Khan is also a well known film director, film producer, and an actress too. She has choreographed many famous Bollywood songs in her career. She married Shirish Kunder in 2004 but she was unable to conceive a child naturally. So she resorted to surrogacy in the year 2008 and conceived triplets. Farah Khan is so happy with her children that she advises all the couples, who face trouble in conceiving, to go for surrogacy.
