You know what makes a good start of the day? It’s a hearty and healthy breakfast. And when we talk about breakfast, idlis are one of the healthiest options that come to your mind first and the icing on the cake is that everyone loves idlis!!

We are sure you must have tried the white colored idlis which are generally available everywhere having different variants like the rava idli, podi idli, vegetable idli and gram flour idli to name a few.

Recently, an eatery from Nagpur was seen selling “black idli”and that too at “pocket friendly rates which costs below INR 150”. Unbelievable, right? But it’s true and it’s healthy!

An eatery named, “All About Idli (AAI)” from Nagpur boasts about bringing up with a new ingredient of idli which is called, black idli.

Kumar S Reddy, the owner of AAI started making the black colour using coconut shells, orange peels, beetroot juice, and beetroot pulp. He claims it is a tedious and lengthy process as he needs to dry the ingredients and then instead of burning them to yield black colour,he roasts them without any oil in a one-and-half-inch tawa.

The best part is that all the ingredients are natural and the resultant black powder left from the batter is “a type of naturally activated charcoal”and is mixed with rava or semolina to make the idlis.
