Charitable Initiatives of 5 Bollywood Celebrities

Apart from regularly setting the box office on fire with their films, these Bollywood celebrities also devote some of their time to philanthropic activities. Be it education for girls or depression, these actors have launched their own charities and campaigns to help raise awareness about some of the most common issues that plague Indian society.

We bring to you 5 such celebrities who are not only known for the acting prowess but also for their charitable work-

1) Salman Khan

Bollywood’s favorite actor with a heart of gold launched ‘Being Human-The Salman Khan Foundation’ in 2007. The foundation consists of a clothing line and a jewelry line. All the proceeds that ‘Being Human’ earns from these streams are used to provide education and healthcare support to the underprivileged.

 

2) Shabana Azmi

A part-time actor and a part-time philanthropist, Shabana Azmi started the ‘Mijwan Foundation’ for her father. Named after a small town in UP where her father was born, Shabana Azmi’s foundation helps underprivileged children in their education. Through the foundation, Shabana Azmi has already established a school, college, computer center and a ‘chikankari’ and sewing center in the town.

 

3) Deepika Padukone

After opening up about her battle against depression, Deepika Padukone started the ‘Live, Love, Laugh Foundation’. The foundation aims to spread awareness and change the way people look at mental health. The foundation encourages people to come out in the open about their mental health issues and supports them by connecting them with professionals who can help them out.

 

4) Farhan Akhtar

MARD-an acronym for ‘Men Against Rape and Discrimination’, is a social campaign launched by Farhan Akhtar. Music is used as the primary means to spread and convey messages to inspire people to work towards a better society-a society that respects its women. Farhan regularly tours the country with his band for this initiative.

 

5) Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar joined hands with the government to launch the ‘BharatKeVeer’ campaign. Supported by the government, an app was created that could allow the people of the country to reach out to the families of martyred soldiers financially.
