Meet a good gynecologist before planning the baby and ask about a healthy pregnancy. There is a high likelihood that keeping your age in mind, the doctor may prescribe important vitamins or minerals such as folic acid etc. to ensure a healthy foundation for the baby.
After getting pregnant, every possible precaution should be taken during the first two months, regular health checks must be done. All good doctors prescribe tests and undertake physical examination to monitor various parameters. Doctors also advise and counsel patients about various symptoms and risks during pregnancy.
During pregnancy, doctors prescribe many vitamins, minerals and calcium taking your age and health into account. These supplements help in reducing the risk of brain or spinal defect in the baby. For older women, this is particularly important because their children are more susceptible to these diseases. Along with this, a healthy diet is also important. Eat a balanced diet with fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, low fat milk or milk products. Also, add calcium-rich ingredients to your diet. Include some citrus fruits and beans in your diet for folic acid.
With age, the risk of complications in pregnancy may increase, especially the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy. The tests conducted by your doctor help keep track of the genetic problems in the child and these can be treated without delay. For example, test such as amniocentesis can detect chromosomal congenital defects with accuracy but amniocentesis can also cause miscarriage, however, your doctor may recommend it taking your case into account.
Apart from a nutritious diet, you need to stay away from alcohol and cigarettes because during pregnancy alcohol and cigarettes can lead to birth defects in your baby. Smoking can lower the weight of newborn babies, and can increase the likelihood of Pre-eclampsia.
Regular exercise, yoga, walking and light exercises can help you stay fit, stress-free, active and healthy throughout your pregnancy. But remember to consult your doctor before starting anything.
It is important to maintain proper weight during pregnancy because it can risk the development of your child and may cause premature delivery. Increased weight increases the risk of high blood pressure and diseases such as sugar in pregnancy. It is not necessary that after thirty-five, pregnancy-related risks will affect everyone but it is necessary to be aware and get guidance regarding the precautions.
