After cricketer Virat Kohli and actress Anushka Sharma tied the knot in the picturesque Italian town of Tuscany, it was Bollywood’s fashion queen Sonam Kapoor’s turn to say ‘I do’. Sonam Kapoor tied the knot with longtime beau Anand Ahuja, a Delhi-based businessman, on May 8th, 2018. The Bollywood fashionista’s wedding was all the rage in B-town because it was the second big fat Indian wedding in Bollywood after the December wedding of Virushka.
The Kapoor khandaan came out in full force to celebrate Sonam’s simple Anand Karaj wedding ceremony. The who’s who of Bollywood attended this wedding. From King Khan to Ranveer Singh, Tinseltown’s celebrities were all seen attending the wedding.
Another reason Sonam’s wedding created such a buzz was that everyone wanted to know which outfits the fashion icon had chosen for her wedding ceremony and other wedding rituals.

For her Mehendi event, Sonam opted for a simple Anuradha Vakil outfit. The outfit included an off-white kurta with a lilac-colored sharara. A baby pink dupatta completed this outfit. Sonam’s entire outfit was bordered with gold gota work.
This traditional, pastel-colored outfit was a great choice for a simple function such as a mehendi. Moreover, the outfit was comfortable to wear since the bride had to sit for a few hours to get her bridal mehendi put on her hands and feet.
For her sangeet function, Sonam looked ethereal in a white and gold lehenga designed by designer duo Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla. The blouse of the lehenga had intricate gold detailing and the self-printed dupatta was bordered with gota. It has been reported that Sonam’s lehenga took almost eighteen months to make! Another interesting thing about her lehenga is that if one looks closely, you can see that each pleat of the lehenga is tinged with pastel colors and has exquisite zardozi and chikankari work. Each pleat of the lehenga has also been hand-embroidered differently.
Sonam went the traditional way and opted to wear a simple and traditional red and gold Anuradha Vakil lehenga for her Anand Karaj ceremony. Unlike other designers, Anuradha Vakil is best known for her vintage textile designs. Vakil’s preference for vintage textile designs is beautifully showcased in the wedding outfit worn by Sonam Kapoor.
After the Anand Karaj ceremony, Sonam changed into an Anamika Khanna lehenga. Resplendent with her choora and sindoor, Sonam looked like the quintessential Punjabi bride in this baby pink lehenga.
After her Anand Karaj ceremony in the morning, the newlyweds hosted a reception for family and friends at the Leela Hotel in Mumbai. Sonam wore a simple Anamika Khanna lehenga for her reception. Later in the night, Sonam changed into a white chikankari kaftan that was designed by Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla.
